TodaysArt is delighted to present this Dutch premiere as the official opening concert of the festival. Get carried away into the world of Stanislaw Lem’s novel ‘Solaris’. ‘Music for Sólaris’ by Ben Frost and Daníel Bjarnason is an ambitious project that tells the story of a man who arrives at a distant planet to study the ocean covering its surface, which turns out to be a mysterious gigantic intelligence that brings painful and repressed memories into physical being. In the live performance, Frost and Bjarnason are joined by Sinfonietta Cracovia, which numbers amongst europe’s most distinguished chamber ensembles. It also draws inspiration from the Andrei Tarkovsky film adaptation, featuring film manipulations by Brian Eno (composer and producer for among others Coldplay, U2, Paul Simon and Depeche Mode) and Nick Robertson to create a visual component parallel to the music composition process. ‘Music for Sólaris’ was initiated by Unsound and will be realized in collaboration with the ICAS network. ‘Music for Sólaris’ will only be performed once in the Netherlands.
This project has been supported by the Nordisk Kulturfond.
