Nik Nowak – Panzer [DE]

Nik Nowak, a graduate of the University of Fine Arts in Berlin, created a wholly diverse range of "Mobile Boosters", i.e. portable or at least flexible sound systems. These innovations culminated eventually (after several predecessors) in the so-called "Panzer" (Tank). Nik Nowak describes his creation as some kind of response to the increasing anonymity of life in virtual space. He claims his work is rooted primarily in jam sessions in the park, which were still fairly common in the 1980s. By contrast, he points out, people today mainly "get together" online and anonymously. His Panzer is designed to counter this cultural shift.
