Silvia Bertolotti interviewed media artist Chris Salter for Digicult. They spoke about his last project “Displace 2.0″, which is part of his research on the creation of augmented performative environments where sensor based tools and technologies challenge the sensorial experience on different levels (audio, visual, tactile, olfactive, etc). Developed with TeZ and the anthropology professor David Howes, and presented at TodaysArt festival 2012, it’s a seminal experience for all lovers of close relationships between Art, Perception & Science. Read it here (or here in Italian).

A quote from the article:

“Todaysart Festival seems to be more and more an event not to be missed in the European digital art scene. It is not only a remarkable qualitative artistic level, but also a great organization and an effective structure. The main theme, as stated by the organizers, this year was “the search and the loving for the undiscovered”. Multiple were not only the venues but also the aspects of the this edition’s program, presenting audiovisual productions, modern dance performances and workshops, DJ sets, concerts, installations and exhibitions.”

Since the festival we have been quite occupied with recovering, rounding-up and initiating new projects, and we apologize that this post-festival newsitem arrives so late. First off, we want to thank you all for coming to TodaysArt 2012; we hope you had a great experience. We look forward to seeing you again at the next edition of the TodaysArt Festival!

Questionnaire
Your opinion about this year’s festival and TodaysArt in general is very important to us! We have created an online questionnaire (in both English and Dutch), which takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. If you complete the questionnaire and leave us your email address you will have the chance to win the following:

* 1 x Free entrance to all TodaysArt 2013 activities
* 5 x Free subscription to DOTS Digital Art Magazine
* 5 x TodaysArt T-Shirt

Thank you and please share this with your friends as well.

Photo’s / Videos
In case you feel like looking back, or if you missed something and want to know what it was like, then check out the collection of photos and videos of this year’s edition.

Reviews
These are a few of the quotes from this year’s reviews about TodaysArt 2012:

TodaysArt geeft Den Haag weer iets om trots op te zijn - Hofstijl

Een geringer budget zorgt voor een beperktere programmering, zodat het de truc is kwaliteit door selectie te waarborgen en zelfs te verbeteren. Het is het festival dit jaar gelukt om met minder meer te maken. – KindaMuzik

The art is evolving just as many things are in life. If people ask us nowadays what we do for a living, we either give them a 30 minute explanation or just say.. Yeah well a lot of things actually, it’s hard to describe. And we feel TodaysArt showed us completely what this change is all about, and really brought upon great experiences illustrating what today’s art and future art holds for us! - DOTS Digital Art Magazine report day 2

Hendrik Weber is niet de eerste technomuzikant die zijn muziek vertaalt naar een orkest, maar zelden is er zo goed over nagedacht en klinkt het resultaat zo subtiel en indrukwekkend. René Passet / DJBroadcast over Pantha du Prince & The Bell Laboratory

In a city where not much has happened musically since the long, slow decline of the Bubbling scene in the early ’00s, the Vortex became the lifeblood for a festival (and a city) that seemed more institutionally-focused. Attracting not only ticketed guests but a layer cake of Hague population, bored Dutch teenagers, the homeless and off-work technocrats all gravitated to the space throughout the day and well into the night. - Resident Advisor reviews TodaysArt with four stars out of five.

TodaysArt is very proud of the support from Nippon Television Network Europe (NTVE) for a program that focuses on innovative and high quality performing arts projects by established and upcoming Japanese artists. The program features performances of Ei Wada’s ‘Open Reel Ensemble’ and ‘Braun Tube Jazz Band’ and Ryoichi Kurokawa’s ‘syn_’. This collaboration matches well with the ambitions of both organizations to further expand strong cultural and artistic relations between the Netherlands and Japan.

TodaysArt has a rich tradition of presenting Japanese artists at our festival since the first edition in 2005. Artists and groups such as Hiroaki Umeda, Ryoichi Kurokawa, Daito Manabe, MU, Sei Matsemura, L+M & Syogo, Kenzo Minami, Akinori Oishi, TN8, Yota Morimoto, Takuro Mizuta Lippit / DJ Sniff, NiCad, ibitsu, DJ Duct, Yoshimitsu Ichiraku / DoraVideo, Telly, Yuko Uesu (TO-PO) and Yoko Seyama were presented in previous editions. Many of these artists found their way to larger events and exhibitions after their presentation at the TodaysArt festival. In 2012, we would like to continue and solidify this tradition.

NTV Europe (NTVE) was founded in 1992 as one of the Group subsidiary companies of Nippon Television Network Corporation (NTV), the pioneer of Japanese commercial TV. Since its foundation, NTVE has been based at the World Trade Centre in Amsterdam and has been involved in various activities, such as research in new developments and technologies in the Media and Broadcasting fields, planning and carrying out large scale fine-art exhibitions, coordinating the production of TV programs, and the licensing of content for broadcasting in Japan. NTV Europe is responsible for the research, coordination and filming for Japanese TV productions in Europe. On the basis of extensive networks developed within Europe, NTVE can offer many and various services.

Through this collaboration, TodaysArt and NTVE reach out to audiences, artists and professionals from a variety of contemporary art and creative industry sectors to further expand strong cultural relations between the Netherlands and Japan and to jointly present high quality programmes.
