The eleventh edition of TodaysArt will be marked by a string of unusual experiences. We are very pleased to announce the first artists and makers who will stimulate your minds and senses during a festival weekend at the Dutch seaside. With performances, club programs, installations and a symposium above the waves, as well as interventions on the beach, in the sea and in the air, TodaysArt 2015 promises to become an amazing experience.
TodaysArt will take place from the 24th to the 27th of September. On the 24th of September, the 4DSOUND program starts on a different location than The Pier, and will run until the 27th of September. On Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th of September, visitors can experience the full festival on and around The Pier, with an extensive program. More details about other locations and programs will be announced soon.
TodaysArt is proud to announce the first details of this year’s program. During the coming weeks, be sure to expect many more program additions.
Performances & Artworks
This year’s program is strongly influenced by its main location: the Pier of Scheveningen, the beach and the sea. You will be able to experience performances and artworks with a strong connection to these natural sources of inspiration, of which most were made specifically for this location.
Among these works are Lisa Park’s stunning Eunoia, a project in which she manipulates seawater with waves of sound, generated by brain activity. Herman Kolgen en David Lettelier will present the installation ‘Eotone’,, which will produce meteorological sounds by using real-time weather data from Scheveningen and other locations in the world.
Mike Rijnierse created a work in which a two-hundred-kilo church bell will make its way down towards the sea from the Bungee jump-tower on the Pier. The construction of the bell and the elastic band will produce a unique vertical Doppler-effect. Large industrial pipes that were used for sand suppletion will be transformed into an organ played by Staalplaat Soundsystem and other artists. A special composition was made for this huge organ consisting of four 24 meter-long tubes. The air will be forced through the pipes by fire from hot air balloon engines. Zoro Feigl will explore the boundaries of the sky using a kinetic kite.
Dancing above the waves
The night program has always been an essential ingredient of the TodaysArt Festival. This year, with two intimate club venues, TodaysArt will host club nights above the sea. The line-up is a mix of upcoming talent and established names representing current developments in electronic music. The program includes quite a few world premieres, including Prefuse 73 who will start the tour of his new album in November but made an exception and will present his new material for the first time during TodaysArt. Another highlight is groundbreaking techno veteran Ellen Allien, who will be essential in the transformation of the former restaurant into a fully fledged temporary “club on sea”. Expect further contributions from, among many others, Electric Indigo + Tomas Wagensommerer, Group A, Lorenzo Senni, Lotic, DJ Nigga Fox, Rrose, Suicide Year, Young Marco and Zamilska.
4DSOUND
The festival weekend will kickoff with a world premiere of 4DSOUND. 4DSOUND is an omnidirectional sound system in which the listener can move through the sound environment. 4DSOUND is currently unique in the world; the technology has made a significant contribution to the possibilities for creating, performing, and experiencing spatial sound. At TodaysArt you can expect lots of new productions and programs. The 4DSOUND program, as part of the TodaysArt Festival, will run from the 24th until the 27th of September at a different location than The Pier. More details about the program, location and tickets will be announced in the coming weeks.
