Open Call

This year’s open call focuses on the public character of the Spuiplein square and its direct surroundings. An essential question within this year’s festival is ‘Who owns the city?’ Through artistic interventions, TodaysArt wants to raise questions about the democratic qualities of the public sphere. The Spuiplein has become a construction site, which it will remain at least for the next three years. Looking out on the building activities one can reflect on the new common public space to be build yet. Within this temporary vacuum TodaysArt aims for a temporary lab experimenting with what a new common public space could consist of and look like. Having in mind the continuous influence of different powers making use of metadata and algorithms, TodaysArt calls upon questioning the public sphere (Spuiplein) ‘under construction’.

Submissions could include proposals and concepts which:
– Interrupt the flow of circulation in public space;
– Exist within both the physical as well as the digital domain;
– Are of a temporary nature and could manifest continuously during a period of two to four days or for a shorter duration during daytime and/or nighttime;
– Respond to the question of ‘Who owns the city’;
– Include an action / gesture / intervention / performance / monologue / theatre / dance / workshop / talks;
– Hitech / lotech
